Our Story

About Khojdai

Built by the community, for the community — connecting the Nepali diaspora across America.

"I built Khojdai because I lived the problem. I know what it feels like to land in a new country and not know where to find a room, a job, or even a plate of dal bhat."

— Founder, Khojdai

Over fifteen years ago, I made the journey that thousands of Nepalis make every year — I left home and moved to the United States. I arrived with big dreams, a couple of suitcases, and absolutely no idea how things worked here.

The first few weeks were the hardest. Finding a room was a nightmare. I didn't know anyone in the city, and the mainstream platforms felt overwhelming and impersonal. Eventually, I found help through a friend of a friend — a fellow Nepali who pointed me in the right direction. That experience stayed with me: the Nepali community was the safety net, but there was no single place to find it.

Over the years, I watched the same story play out again and again. New arrivals would scramble to find housing, jobs, and services — relying on scattered Facebook groups, word of mouth, and sheer luck. Meanwhile, Nepali-owned businesses struggled to get discovered by the very community they served. The information was out there, but it was fragmented, unreliable, and hard to access.

The idea was simple: what if there was one platform — built specifically for Nepalis in America — where you could find everything you need?

In 2020, in the middle of a global pandemic that made community more important than ever, I registered Khojdai. The name comes from the Nepali word "खोज्दै" — meaning "searching" or "looking for." That's exactly what we help people do.

What started as a side project born out of personal frustration has grown into something much bigger. Today, Khojdai serves Nepali communities across all 50 states — from the bustling Nepali neighborhoods of New York and Dallas to the growing communities in smaller towns across the Midwest and South.

We're not just another classifieds site. We understand the nuances of our community — the need for trust, the importance of cultural context, and the value of connecting with people who share your background. Every feature we build is guided by a simple question: "Would this have helped me when I first arrived?"

Khojdai is still growing, still learning, and still very much a community effort. If you're here, you're part of that story — and I'm grateful for it.
